An area, says Delizie di Calabria, "where the sun shines 300 days and warms the heart 365 days a year, the capital of ancient Magna Graecia." The region is touched by the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas and crowned by the magnificent Sila mountains; it is a true gem of the South.
His majesty, “il peperoncino”: Calabria's red gold.
The product for which the region of Calabria is appreciated in Italy and in the rest of the world is “peperoncino”, the chili pepper. It is the spicy fruit of a plant belonging to the Solanaceae family, native to Central and South America. Known in Mexico as early as 9,000 years ago, chili peppers arrived in Europe aboard Columbus' three caravels, returning from his voyage to America in 1492. It then spread throughout the Mediterranean basin. How it arrived in Calabria is a mystery. What is certain is that today we know it as Calabria's red gold. In Calabria, the company explains, chili pepper has found its ideal habitat, becoming the elective fruit of a gastronomic culture that is rich and nutritious, healthy and respectful of the principles of the Mediterranean Diet. Chili peppers are complemented by other extraordinary products such as the world-famous Tropea red onion, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and bergamot. These products are preserved following traditional techniques. The history of the Calabrian preserving tradition, emphasizes Delizie di Calabria, "is so old that it is lost in the mists of time.”

Delizie di Calabria was founded in 1989 and is still proud to be a family-run company engaged in producing Calabrian chili peppers and canned foods. This company was born from the passion of the Scalise family. In more than 30 years of business, the Scalise's - led by Mimmo Scalise - have honored the mission of bringing good Calabrian food to the table of every spicy food connoisseur. Its history began in the small village of Sersale; today, the ultra-modern, high-tech factory is located in the city of Catanzaro. The values that animate this company are always the same: respect for authenticity, enhancement of craftsmanship, and constant search for quality. Delizie di Calabria's ambition is to be the Ambassadors of Calabrian chili and food, in Italy and worldwide.
